Rhodes suspended for first four games

Dominic Rhodes, signed in the off-season to a two-year deal by the Oakland Raiders, will not be available until the fifth game of the 2007 NFL season.

The Oakland Raiders issued the following statement in regards to Rhodes:

Dominic Rhodes of the Oakland Raiders has been suspended without pay for the team's first four regular-season games of 2007 for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy.

Rhodes' suspension begins on Friday, August 31. He can return to the active roster on October 1, following the conclusion of the teams game against the Miami Dolphins.

Rhodes is eligible to participate in all preseason games and practices.

He rushed for 1,104 yards in his rookie season - his career-high - and had seen limited action until last year when his role was expanded after an torn ACL claimed the 2002 season.

After netting just 529 yards rushing from 2002 through 2005, Rhodes toted the rock for 641 yards last season, helping the Colts win the Super Bowl.
