Curtis Lands in Philadelphia

The top free agent wide receiver is now off the board.

In a small surprise, the Philadelphia Eagles beat out at least four others teams for the services of free agent WR Kevin Curtis on Thursday. The former St. Louis Ram agreed to a six-year deal.

According to's Tony Pauline, the total deal is worth up to $32 million. $9.5 million is guaranteed and the signing bonus is $7.5 million.

As noted earlier this week, the Tennessee Titans got into the fray late and some thought they had the lead as of early Wednesday in landing the 28-year old (turns 29 in July), fifth-year pro.

Curtis, as pointed out out recently, wasn't just used as a slot receiver with St. Louis as many had pegged him there. Curtis is capable of lining up inside or outside. He'll team with third-year WR Reggie Brown as Philadelphia's two starters at the position. The signing of Curtis takes the pressure off of young WRs Hank Baskett and Jason Avant.

Curtis burst onto the scene during Senior Bowl week of 2003 and dominated the competition during practices with his superb speed. That helped him get selected on the first day of the draft. Recommended Stories
