The Eagles signed Ed Jasper as a free agent during the off-season and thought he would provide some depth on their defensive line. After four pre-season games, they didn't see enough to figure that he would give much help and let the nine-year veteran go, placing him on waivers. Jasper sort of foretold his fate over the past week, acknowledging publicly that there were a lot of good, young defensive linemen in camp and that there may not be room for him on the roster.
Offensive tackle Calvin Armstrong spent all of last season on the Eagles' roster, but didn't appear in a game with the club. He was given his release on Saturday as well.
The rest of the moves weren't too unexpected.
Wide receivers Carl Ford, Jermaine Jamison and J.J. Outlaw (Villanova) were all cut, along with running back Marty Johnson. DeJuan Skinner (tackle), Matt Clark and Brandon Pinderhughes (cornerbacks), Scott Ware (safety) and E.J. Cochrane (kicker) were all victims of the first cuts on Saturday.
