Draft Update With Brian Westbrook coming off of a Pro Bowl season where he led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage, and with a solid backup like Correll Buckhalter ready for duty, one might think that the Eagles would be very comfortable with their running back situation going into next year. Guess again.
Forsett, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound back, started all 13 games for the Golden Bears last season as a senior and rushed for 1,546 yards and 15 touchdowns. He finished the 2007 season ranked 15th in the nation in rushing yards per game. In his first three years at the school (’04-’06), Forsett rushed for 1,674 yards and 11 touchdowns in 36 games. He also recorded 41 receptions for 386 yards and a touchdown in his career, and even played on special teams. Before becoming Cal’s premier back last season, Forsett played behind Bill’s running back Marshawn Lynch in 2005 and 2006. Lynch was the twelfth overall pick in last year’s draft. At the 2008 NFL Combine held in February, Forsett was tied for the third most bench press reps among the invited running backs, putting up 225 pounds 26 times. Besides Westbrook and Buckhalter, the Eagles also have former Penn State running back Tony Hunt and Reno Mahe in their backfield, although Mahe is an unrestricted free agent.
