Rayburn Falls Victim To New Arrivals

Sam Rayburn knew he would be coming in to camp with a battle on his hands; or at least he thought. Now, he's not coming into camp - at least not with the Eagles - and instead is battling to find a job.

On the eve of opening mini-camp, the Eagles cut defensive tackle Sam Rayburn. Rayburn's job became tenuous when the Eagles added veterans Montae Reagor and Ian Scott through free agency.

Rayburn joined the Eagles as a rookie free agent in 2003 and played well early in his career before running into injury problems over the last two seasons. Rayburn started last season on the inactive list and missed five games. The injuries dropped his sack totals from a career high of six in 2004 to no sacks last season. In his rookie season, Rayburn didn't see much playing time, but collected two sacks. He signed a long-term deal with the Eagles after his impressive 2004 season when he not only recorded six sacks, but also chipped in with 46 tackles.

Reagor and Scott join current Eagles La Juan Ramsey, Mike Patterson, Brodrick Bunkley and rookie free agent Jeremy Clark in the battle for playing time at the defensive tackle position.
