The Eagles didn't wait around for Todd Pinkston to find a trade for himself. Instead, they released him and backup quarterback Koy Detmer. To replace Detmer, the Eagles are bringing back A.J. Feeley.

With most teams figuring that the Eagles would waive wide receiver Todd Pinkston, there weren't many lining up to trade for him. With that in mind, the Eagles released Pinkston. They also released backup QB Koy Detmer and agreed to terms with QB A.J. Feeley on a two-year contract.

Feeley had been in camp with the San Diego Chargers and figured on backing up Phillip Rivers, but was released earlier this week. Feeley spent his first three NFL seasons with the Eagles after being a 5th round draft pick in 2001. The Eagles dealt him to Miami in 2004 for a second round draft choice, which the Eagles used to select WR Reggie Brown. After starting eight games for the Dolphins in 2004, Feeley was then traded to San Diego for QB Cleo Lemon.

With the Eagles, Feeley engineered four wins in the final five games of the 2002 season when quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Koy Detmer were sidelined with injuries.

"Todd has had seven great years here for the Philadelphia Eagles," said head coach Andy Reid. "There is no one that I have respected more than Todd, who has helped us win a lot of football games. We have decided to give him an opportunity to move on to another team where there was still time for him to latch on as a starter. I know he is anxious to find another situation and step in and contribute immediately."

Pinkston missed last season with a torn achilles and has missed all but one pre-season game with an achilles injury to the other foot. The Eagles were concerned that he wouldn't be healthy enough to start the season and traded for Saints' wide receiver Donte Stallworth. That deal made Pinkston expendable.

Detmer's days as the number two quarterback were numbered when punter Dirk Johnson became the holder for David Akers. With Akers comfortable with Johnson, the Eagles moved Detmer down to the number three role behind Jeff Garcia and when Feeley became available, decided to go in another direction. "Koy gave 10 great years to the Eagles organization. He handled himself as a true professional on and off the field. He has been a great teammate. We wish he and his family all the best in the future," said Reid.
