"I hate to go because somebody has gone down with an injury, but being the first alternate, that happens," Dawkins said. "This is something that I work for each and every year and I never take it for granted. It's an honor."
Dawkins' invitation came at the expense of the Bears Mike Brown, who took himself out of the game. Brown suffered a calf injury in the Bears playoff game and doesn't feel he'll be ready to play in the Pro Bowl.
Initially, Dawkins was surprised that he wasn't named to the squad, but didn't make much of a fuss over the snub. His inclusion in the game means that he will have played in four of the last five Pro Bowls and has made five appearances over all.
The 32 year old Dawkins was second among NFL defensive backs with 3.5 sacks this season and led the Eagles in forced fumbles with five. He was also second on the team in interceptions and ranked third in tackles.
Dawkins joins middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, who was named to the team back in December.
