McNabb had an MRI, and Myers finally got an opportunity to look at it

That means Mike McMahon, who will get his first start as an Eagle and
only his eighth NFL start Sunday against the 6-3 Giants, likely will be
the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.
Koy Detmer will continue to be the backup quarterback. Tight end and
long snapper Mike Bartrum currently is the club's No. 3 quarterback. But
Jeff Smoker, who was signed to the practice squad Tuesday, is expected
to be added to the 53-man roster as soon as McNabb is placed on injured
reserve and would serve as the emergency quarterback behind McMahon and
--QB Donovan McNabb's season likely is over. He aggravated his sports
hernia injury in Monday night's loss to Dallas. Specialist Dr. William
Myers has recommended that McNabb have surgery.
--QB Mike McMahon's first start for the Eagles on Sunday probably
won't be his last. With Donovan McNabb expected to miss the remainder of
the season, McMahon will be the starter as long as he plays well and as
long as he stays healthy.
--QB Koy Detmer will continue to be the Eagles' backup quarterback
and holder for kicker David Akers. With Donovan McNabb out, coach Andy
Reid chose to elevate No. 3 QB Mike McMahon rather than Detmer.
--TE L.J. Smith still is listed as questionable with knee and ankle
sprains. But he practiced Thursday, which means he'll likely play Sunday
against the Giants.
--RB Lamar Gordon tweaked his ankle in Monday night's loss to the
Cowboys, but practiced Thursday and is expected to play Sunday. He is
listed as probable.
