RB Lamar Gordon Press Conference: 9-5-2005

On what he thinks of the offense at first glance: "At first glance, there's a lot to learn. It's totally different, it's new, and there's a lot of opportunity for a lot of people to make plays. You just have to give me the book so I can learn it, and get ready to play."

On his thoughts about going from the Miami to the Philadelphia in terms of success:

"This is a better situation. The team is winning, and they win a lot of games. It's fun joining something like that, and I'm not looking to jump in and be a star or whatever. They've got things going down here so I can just jump in and do what I can and help this team. I can just assist, have fun with it, and you can have fun when you win games. That's what football is all about."

On whether being in a winning environment will change him:

"Of course, especially the enjoyment of work part. I think I can go to work and everyone is just confident, and everybody's going in there actually knowing that we're going to go out there and ball up. You have to raise your play up to everyone else just to fit in, and I think that's what helped me a lot, getting back to winning ball, making plays, and just being tough all around."

On his health and recovery of shoulder injury:

"My health is perfect. That's why I'm excited for this year. I really rehabbed my shoulder pretty good after dislocating it. I was out the whole year. I don't have any problems. I don't even wear any extra stuff on it. It feels brand new"

On if his versatility is his strength:

"I think that's a big thing for me. I can catch, I can run, and my blocking has gotten a lot better. I realize that since they consider me a big back I have to do that so I've been working on it and I'm willing to block. I'm a quick learner. I can pick up something; I can really do whatever they ask me to do. That's how I am. Whatever they need me to do to fit in, that's what I can do, and that's what I'm ready for."

On how tough last year was:

"With a year like that, it makes you just start thinking back to what your grandmother told you just little stuff that keeps you going. She always told me when things are going good just never be too high and when things are bad just never get too low. Just always realize that it can go wrong really quick it can get good real quick. So I had to lean on things like that because it was tough getting traded and getting hurt. It was like what else could happen. So now I'm just happy I'm healthy, I'm happy I'm here, really."

On whether he saw the release coming:

"I really didn't know what was going on to tell you the truth. I wasn't really getting any reps so I tried to ask them what's going on, if I was really playing that bad this preseason, and nobody really had answers. So I went to work everyday and practice hard, played hard when I got a chance. If it was going to come, it was going to come. I just had to make sure that hopefully I could get another job. That was the scary part, but once I got this call then I just felt like it's time to start over. It's time to get back to doing what I do."

On the emotions of being released and picked up in such a short time:

"Yeah, the emotions are just crazy. When I got released it was like, okay, I figured they were going to do that. They've got a twenty million dollar man. Ricky came back. I figured I was going to get released, but then it's like this is the first time in my career I was unemployed. So then it's like, uh oh, I really didn't get to show any thing. I was hurt last year, so it was like all kinds of things are going through my head. When I got the call I was just excited, I was just like okay great team, back to winning. When I was with St Louis, we were winning. It was fun, and there were confident people. This is about to be fun. That's what I'm thinking about, and I'm going to go there and fit in and do what I need to do, do what they need me to do."

On whether he felt the world was against him after his car was stolen and he lost his job:

"Oh, I forgot about that. I just kind of felt like it really can't get any worse. I just keep my head on, just keep working hard, make sure I'm healthy, and then when I get out there make plays, because I really wasn't playing in preseason, for what reason I don't know, but when I got in I had a couple spurts here and there. And the car thing, I just had a rental car."

On whether this is the ultimate fresh start:

"Yeah, pretty much. They're fixing my car right now so I have to figure out how to get my car up here. So now I'm pretty much just focused on football. I'll take the shuttle over here if I have to."

On whether he can feel the difference at the Eagles practice:

"It's so laid back. I didn't really know that this is how it is with winning teams and stuff. In Miami it's just really structured right now. Like when I got off the plane yesterday there was some media there. In Miami, you can't even talk to media without it being cleared or anything, so I'm thinking uh oh, am I supposed to keep walking or talk to these guys or what? So I don't know, it's a totally different thing, and I'm just trying to learn what's going on as the days come. But practice was laid back. Once we got working, we worked hard really quick and then we're out of there. That's a big difference."

On whether he has made friends in the locker room:

"I actually know [RB] Brian Westbrook a little bit. We were Senior Bowl roommates back before we got drafted so I saw him and said what's up. And to a couple other people, you know just being nice. I said what's up to [WR Terrell Owens] T.O. I had to say what's up to him, because it's T.O. I saw [QB] Donovan [McNabb] and said what's up. The more and more I'm here I get to know more people and everything."

On whether he would like to stick with one team after playing for three previous teams:

"Yeah, pretty much. I just want to get somewhere where I have a role, and where I know it's stable. And just focus on what I have to do and just ball out, and be the best that I can"
