Eagles cut Hugh Douglas, 16 others

The Philadelphia Eagles today announced released 17 players, including defensive end Hugh Douglas

"Releasing players that have worked their tails off for the team is one of the toughest days for me," said head coach Andy Reid. "It's even tougher when you release veterans such as Hugh and Jon. They have contributed a great deal to the success of this team over the past few years and we appreciate their efforts on and off the field."

The Eagles roster now stands at 53 players. Here's a current position-by-position breakdown of the roster:

Quarterbacks (3): Donovan McNabb, Koy Detmer, Mike McMahon

Running backs (5): Brian Westbrook, Ryan Moats, Reno Mahe, Bruce Perry, Josh Parry (fullback)

Wide Receivers (5): Terrell Owens, Greg Lewis, Reggie Brown, Billy McMullen, Darnerien McCants

Tight Ends (3): L.J. Smith, Stephen Spach, Mike Bartrum

Offensive Line (9): Tra Thomas, Artis Hicks, Hank Fraley, Shawn Andrews, Jon Runyan, Todd Herremans, Adrien Clarke, Trey Darilek, Calvin Armstrong

Defensive Line (9): Jevon Kearse, Hollis Thomas, Darwin Walker, N.D. Kalu, Juqua Thomas, Sam Rayburn, Mike Patterson, Trent Cole, Paul Grasmanis

Linebackers (7): Keith Adams, Jeremiah Trotter, Dhani Jones, Mark Simoneau, Mike Labinjo, Jason Short, Matt McCoy
