New York Giants center David Baas was placed on injured reserve in light of the knee injury he sustained on Monday and backup Jim Cordle is expected to replace him starting this Sunday in Philadelphia.

The New York Giants were able to seal their first victory of the season against the Minnesota Vikings this past Monday night by a score of 23-7, making them 1-6. Even though they emerged victorious, Big Blue was hardly clicking on all cylinders and came out on the good side of an ugly game. This upcoming Sunday they will have a rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, whom they lost to 36-21 back in Week 5. If New York hopes to exact revenge, it will have to do so without center David Baas.

Baas has been plagued by back, neck and knee injuries throughout the campaign, but this time he sustained an injury to the knee on Monday Night that will effectively end his season.

“Guys have to step up, admitted Baas. “(Cordle has) done an excellent job, and he’ll continue to do an excellent job. They’ll work together out there, communicate and they’re going to get another one in Philly. That’s the next step. My next step is getting healthy.”

Even so, Baas said he would “absolutely” be around the team after having his surgery.

“I’m always going to be around and if anybody ever needs anything, I’ll definitely offer my opinion or my analysis of any film or anything like that,” said Baas. “We’re always there to help our guys. That’s the team aspect. You’re never going to lose that. For me, it’s get healthy again and get ready to play football again in the future.”

Baas sees the doctor this week, and after talking to his family and the coaches, he plans on establishing his schedule for making a speedy recovery.

“Obviously very frustrating,” said Baas of his knee injury. “Things happen, that’s part of the game… You don’t plan for it. You do the best you can and I did that and I can’t sit there and have any regrets. Things happen and you have to move on.”
